Ultrasound

Safe Harbor Animal Hospital in Warrenton is pleased to announce that they have teamed up with Oncura Partners and they are now able to provide on-site ultrasound exams for cats and dogs.

Using the Oncura ultrasound, Safe Harbor staff has been trained to administer ultrasounds which are simultaneously viewed online and in real-time by a certified veterinary sonographer and radiologist at Oncura’s offices (which are located in Texas). This speeds the process of diagnostics and insures an accurate ultrasound session.

Safe Harbor Animal Hospital owner and veterinarian Melanie Haase says that partnering with Oncura’s board certified experts allows her to offer expanding state-of-the-art veterinary care to area residents. This keeps client costs down—and with real-time results, she is able to initiate treatment faster, too.

For example, Dr. Haase recently had a dog client who came in for a dental procedure as well as an ultrasound. She says that by the time the dog’s owner came to pick up Yogi several hours later, the results from the radiologist at Oncura had already been received.

Ultrasounds are commonly used in pets for a variety of conditions, including follow-up to abnormal bloodwork, chronic vomiting or diarrhea, unusual weight loss or recurring infections, and cancer screening. Typically, ultrasounds are effective at examining liver, kidney and intestines. The Oncura system can also be used for pinpoint accurate biopsies.
